Frederick Koskosz is a Senior Attorney for the Colwell Law Group. Fred brings more than three decades of legal experience to our team, having practiced law since 1989 including running his own practice for over 16 years. Over the course of his career, he has handled a number of notable matters, including Matter of Joseph G. (a termination of parental rights case), Abu-Hasirah v. INS, and People v. Ricketts-Simpson.
“I believe there are two main approaches to the practice of law; fixing and fighting. While there are different situations that would favor one of those over the other, and I am capable in either mode, I am more of a fixer than a fighter. My approach is to determine what my client really wants and really needs (they may be different!) and determine the best options that will lead to the most favorable outcome.”
Fred has been an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 1992 and previously served as Secretary of the Upstate New York Chapter. His dedication to service has been recognized through the Distinguished Service Award from the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York in 2002 and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Albany Afghan Community Center in 2024. He has also co-authored publications for the New York State Bar Association and has served as a CLE lecturer for NYSBA, Sterling Educational, and other CLE providers.
A native of Upstate New York, Fred earned his J.D. from Western New England College School of Law and his B.A. from Union College in Schenectady. He is admitted to practice in New York State, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Sixth, and Seventh Circuits.
